We support the CQC’s new rating system for care homes and adult services and welcome its roll-out. It’s another practical tool for giving families and those in care more information on the quality of a particular home. However, the findings from the 2014 Your Care Rating survey, the UK’s largest survey of care home residents, show that for the vast majority of the 20,000+ residents who took part they are happy with their care and that overall standards are largely positive.
For all the bad examples of care there are many more which are outstanding and it is important that families can access as much information as possible about the standards in individual care homes. That is what the Your Care Rating survey is all about – improving standards of care and giving families objective information when it comes to choosing a care home. This year’s survey is currently underway and the results will be made public in early 2015 on www.yourcarerating.org.
